ClassLens is a classroom observation and seating-plan tool for teachers. This page describes what personal data the product handles and where it goes. It describes the product as built.

Nothing reaches ClassLens

ClassLens runs entirely in your web browser. Everything it works with — pupil names, RAG ratings, scores, seating plans, skills — is saved directly to a file on your own device, in a folder you choose (typically a folder inside your school’s OneDrive). It is never uploaded, transmitted, or sent to ClassLens or to any other service, at any point, not even briefly. There is no server, no database, and no account. We have no technical ability to see, access, or recover any of it, ever.

What is stored in your file (on your device)

• First name and last initial only — e.g. “Sophia T.” Full surnames, dates of birth, photographs, and biometric data are never collected. This is enforced by the app in your browser, no matter what is typed or uploaded.
• A colour rating (red/amber/green) per pupil, per skill, per lesson date.
• Optionally, a short free-text note per pupil (max 200 characters) for practical seating purposes only (e.g. “extra time”). SEND labels and diagnoses are automatically stripped — there is no way to store a special-educational-needs category or clinical record anywhere in the product.
• Optional test scores, if a teacher chooses to log them.
• Which seat a pupil is assigned to in a seating plan.

What ClassLens stores about you

Nothing on any server. In your own browser, ClassLens remembers a name you type on the “who’s using ClassLens?” screen (so a shared computer opens the right folder) and which folder you linked. Both stay in that browser and are never sent anywhere. There is no account, email address, or password.

How long data is kept

Your data is kept for exactly as long as you keep the file, and no longer. ClassLens has no separate copy to retain or delete. Deleting or clearing your file is entirely in your hands — the same as a paper markbook. There is a note on /help recommending (not requiring) that you remove a class once you no longer need its history.

Requesting deletion

There is nothing to request — delete or edit your own file directly, the same way you would any other file on your device. Settings → “Start a fresh folder” clears everything at once; “Unlink this folder” makes ClassLens forget it (without touching the files). If you need help, email the maintainer show address.

Who can see your classes

Only you, and whoever else has access to the device or cloud-storage account your file lives in — the same as any other file you keep there. ClassLens itself has no technical means to read it: there is no server-side copy, no admin view, and no API, because nothing was ever sent to us.

Browser and device requirements

Linking a folder relies on a browser capability currently only in Chrome, Edge and other Chromium browsers — not Safari or Firefox. If your browser doesn’t support it, ClassLens says so clearly rather than failing silently.

Cookies and tracking

ClassLens sets no cookies at all and contains no analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking of any kind. It makes no network requests to anywhere except to load its own code. Nothing to consent to.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the “last updated” date at the top will change with it.
