What this page covers

ClassLens is a classroom observation and seating-plan tool for teachers. This page describes what personal data the platform stores, why, for how long, and how to have it removed. It describes the product as built, not as a future roadmap item.

What we store about pupils

• First name and last initial only — e.g. “Sophia T.” Full surnames, dates of birth, year groups linked to a name, photographs, and biometric data are never collected or stored, by design.
• A colour rating (red/amber/green) per pupil, per skill or topic, per lesson date.
• Optionally, a short free-text note per pupil (maximum 200 characters), entered at the teacher’s discretion for pastoral purposes only (e.g. “extra time”). There is no way to enter a structured special-educational-needs category, diagnosis, or clinical record anywhere in the product.
• Optional test scores, if a teacher chooses to log them.
• Which seat a pupil is assigned to in a class seating plan.

What we store about the teacher using the platform

An email address and password (handled entirely by our authentication provider, Supabase — we never see or store a plain-text password), a display name, and optionally a school name.

Where data is hosted

All data is hosted on Supabase (database) and Vercel (application hosting), with the database pinned to the London (UK) region. Password-reset and account-deletion confirmation emails are sent via Resend.

How long data is kept

• Observation records are automatically deleted after 2 years.
• Deleting a class immediately and permanently deletes every pupil, seat, observation, and score in it.
• Deleting your account immediately and permanently deletes every class, pupil, seat, observation, score, and feedback submission associated with it. This is a hard deletion, not a soft/recoverable one.

Requesting deletion

Any data associated with your account can be deleted at any time from Settings → Delete account, with no need to contact us first. If you need help, or need data deleted for a reason the in-product flow doesn’t cover, contact PLACEHOLDER_CONTACT_EMAIL@example.com.

Who can see your classes

Only you. Database-level access rules (Row-Level Security) enforce that a teacher account can only ever read or write its own classes, pupils, seats, observations, and scores — this is enforced by the database itself, not only by the application’s user interface.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the “last updated” date at the top of this page will change accordingly.
