What ClassLens is

A free classroom observation and seating-plan tool. There is no charge, no subscription, no account, and no login. Everything you enter is stored only in a file on your own device — see the Privacy Policy and /security for the detail.

Your responsibilities

• Only enter the minimum the product asks for about pupils. It is deliberately designed to prevent storing full surnames, dates of birth, or SEN/clinical data — don’t work around that.
• Use the “seating support” field for practical notes only, not diagnostic or clinical information.
• You are responsible for the folder ClassLens saves to — where it lives, keeping it backed up (a synced folder such as OneDrive is a reasonable choice; ClassLens keeps a few local snapshot copies alongside your file, but that is not a substitute for your own backup), and who else can access the device or account it’s stored in.
• You are responsible for complying with your school’s own data protection and IT policies, including any policy on where files may be stored or synced, and for checking with your school’s Data Protection Officer that using ClassLens is appropriate.

Availability

ClassLens is a small, actively-developed tool. The app itself is a set of static files; if hosting is briefly unavailable, your data is unaffected because it lives in your own file, not on any server. But equally, we cannot recover your data for you if the file, or the device or folder it lives in, is lost or corrupted. Do not treat your linked file as your only record of anything you cannot afford to lose — keep the folder somewhere with its own version history.

Data deletion

Your data lives entirely in your own file — deleting or editing it is done directly by you, and we have no way to recover it once you do. There is no account to delete because there is no account.

No warranty

ClassLens is provided “as is,” without warranty of any kind. We are not liable for any loss arising from your use of the product, including loss of data stored in a file you link to ClassLens.

Browser and device requirements

ClassLens requires Chrome, Edge, or another Chromium-based browser. On an unsupported browser, or a managed device whose IT policy blocks folder access, the product may not be usable at all — a limitation of the browser feature involved, not a ClassLens outage.

Changes to the service

Features may change. We have no access to your data and no accounts, so there is nothing to sell, share, or advertise against.
